Warwick honours Indian Chef Vivek Singh with honorary doctorate of letters

 

 

VIVEK SINGH RECEIVES HONORARY DOCTORATE OF LETTERS FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF WARWICK

 

 

On 21st January, 2015, renowned modern Indian chef Vivek Singh accepted an honorary doctorate of letters from the University of Warwick, for his significant contribution to the culinary landscape of London and the development of Indian cuisine across the United Kingdom.

 

Celebrating its 50th year, the University is honouring those who drive change through independent thinking and exceptional professional achievement, and have decided to honour the Executive Chef of The Cinnamon Club, Cinnamon Kitchen and Cinnamon Soho, for his unique and authentic modern Indian culinary style, as well as his entrepreneurialism and significant charitable contributions.

 

Vivek Singh said: “I am delighted to have been awarded an honorary doctorate of letters from such a prestigious university. The University of Warwick and I share many of the same aspirations and goals, as well as a love for the food industry, and I look forward to building a lasting relationship with Professor Thrift and his talented team.”

 

Professor Nigel Thrift, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University comments: “We are delighted to present Vivek with a Warwick honorary degree for his significant contribution to the development of Indian cuisine in the UK. As a university, Warwick shares Vivek’s passion for food which can be most clearly seen in our Global Research Priorities Programme for Food, which brings together researchers from all disciplines to explore issues of food production and supply, environmental and social sustainability, social justice, nutrition and public health.”
